Best way to be ADA compliant, or to show a level of compliance? Do it from the start. If you're trying to be compliant after the fact, you could be in for a world of hurt.

In this discussion, we'll go through a framework, active development, and how many things you could easily be doing during workflow from the start to make your website more accessible!

This doesn't have to be hard! We are an open-source community, so let's get everyone up to speed on how we can make our sites even more accessible.

Rory Heaney has led and created successful, tailored application and website solutions for top brands, including Betsy Farms and PetAction Plus as well as for celebrity personalities such as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Emily Henderson.

As the Senior Front End Developer for Cie Digital Labs, Rory steers the ideation/execution of web applications as well as mobile and portal development for clients across industries, including Pilot Flying J and Nitto Tire.

He's proficient in CSS, CSS3, HTML, HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, Vue, and PHP languages, and has successfully built more than 500 websites over the past eight years.

Schedule:

6:00 - 6:15: Introductions. What you do, are you looking to hire, are you looking for work, what do you need help with?
6:15 - 7:15: Presentation and Q and A.
7:15 - 8:00: Network and get help with WordPress. Bring your laptop for this part. There's a wide range of experience levels, and we're all here to help each other.
8:00: Soft close. You may hang out a bit longer to talk or finish up a project, but the official Meetup will end.
8:30: Socialize at Bailey's Taproom (213 SW Broadway). They have a big selection of beers and a few non-alcoholic drinks. You can order food at Santeria next door and they will bring it to your table at Bailey's. A bunch of us walk over as a group right after we close up the room, but you're welcome to head over earlier too.

How to find us:

We'll be in the Training Room on the ground floor. From the lobby, go to the right of the elevators and through the glass doors.

Thanks to Digital Trends for providing the venue!

Everyone has questions about WordPress at some time or other. Maybe your site is doing a strange thing with a margin and need a little CSS help. Maybe you're having trouble setting up a child theme. Getting security warnings because you have insecure content? Have a "what if I wanted to do X on my site?" question, and you'd like some suggestions about where to start?

Developers from our group will be available for free limited assistance and suggestions. (If your issue is super-complex, we may not be able to fix it on the spot, but we can at least point you in some good directions.)

While it's fine to come to watch while other people's issues & questions get dealt with, it would be great if everyone came with either a question/issue, or a recent "how I did it" to share.

If we don't have a large turnout, or not a lot of people need help, we'll have an example video from a WordCamp that we can all watch. If you've never been to WordCamp it would be a mini taste of what WordCamp sessions are like.

As usual, parking permits are not enforced after 5pm on OSU-Cascades campus parking. After the formal meetup time, we will migrate over to Cascade Lakes Brewing for a more informal social time -- everyone is welcome to join!
