>> ATTENTION: THIS MEETUP IS ON A SATURDAY AT NOON! <<

This is our advanced topics (developer) meetup. You should come on out but be prepared to participate as we go round-table style to get you all the best knowledge and developer tricks out there.

The WordPress Pasadena Developer Meetup is distinct from the General WordPress Pasadena Meetup in that we'll be pursuing more developer-oriented topics for discussion and presentation. Presentations and feedback are awesome and highly encouraged! Feel free to post in the comments if you already have a topic in mind you'd like to share. We're still experimenting with the exact format and would love to hear your feedback in this next meeting!

This meetup is for a discussion of topics pertaining to WordPress development. See our guidelines below.

< What's it about? >

We're definitely talking about WordPress, but we'll be discussing developer-specific topics. If you would like to attend, we strongly encourage you to enrich the discussion by briefly sharing on a topic of your choice surrounding WordPress development. Discussion on your topic should last anywhere from 5-10 minutes and can include sharing your screen although sharing your screen is not a requirement.

< Who's it for? >

Our meetup is inclusive first and foremost. HOWEVER, it is not for everybody and it's not intended to be. Both experienced and new-coming developers are encouraged to share their expertise and experiences in the form of code samples or some type of demo.

What if I'm a beginner? Please attend, you're welcome here! We do expect you to follow and respect our rules below.

< RULES>

* If you want an interactive guide, see the Advanced WordPress Contribution Wizard. (Link (http://www.advancedwp.org/awp-contribution-wizard/))

The Developer Meetup is an inclusive group. BUT this meetup is NOT for everybody and it's not supposed to be. We will abide by the following rules:

• If you have a question, please research it before you bring it to the meetup. Google it, check it on Stack Exchange, do YOUR homework. This isn't a general tech support group. There are great places for that sort of stuff, this group isn't one of them.

• DO NOT sell your products or services to the group. It's not welcome. There are other meetups for just that sort of thing. This is not one of them.

• EVERYONE WILL PRESENT A TOPIC—as time permits, of course (be concise). We do expect everyone to participate if you show up.

• Acceptable topics to present on—

• Any type of web/WordPress development tool you're working with or having problems with. If sharing a problem, share what you've done to troubleshoot, please. Sharing your code is encouraged.

• A walk-thru of a theme or plugin you have personal experience with using. Share your experiences with us; the good, the bad, and the ewwww.

• A problem or bug you're dealing with. Again, share what you've done.

• Well-researched questions about general WordPress usage and strategy. I will ask you what you've done in your research thus far. If you haven't researched it, your question will be skipped.

Reference: Advanced WordPress Contribution Wizard (http://www.advancedwp.org/awp-contribution-wizard/)

< / RULES >

What makes for a good topic in this Meetup? I don't know. Ten different people will have ten different answers. We're not into policing what is and isn't strictly appropriate; however, if it involves code on the screen or larger discussion about DevOps or front-end solutions, it will almost certainly be a win!

Also, let's have fun!

We haven't done this since last fall, so it's about time we do it again!

This month we will not have an official topic or formal presentation. This meetup is an opportunity to ask questions or get help with your WordPress or website-related issues, or a chance to help someone out or provide advice. We also can discuss any news or other items related to the WordPress world.

No WordPress-related question or issue is too "simple" or trivial! If you're an intermediate or advanced user, join us and provide advice/answers to those who have questions.

Doors open at 6:30PM. Join us for an evening of co-working, conversation and/or support. Hope to see you there!

In a multilingual eCommerce environment we all understand that if we present our goods and services in the language of our customers, we will increase our sales.

This month Toyin Akinmusuru will demonstrate how WooCommerce gives store owners the ability to add multilingual content, localized for target markets. WordPress websites aren’t multilingual by default so Toyin will review and demo the WordPress plugins that offer an innovative way to introduce multilingualism to your site without requiring a lot of extra work or hassle.

Toyin will close the class with a discussion of what it takes to build and maintain an online store along with how much budget should you allocate for a multilingual store build, maintenance, and upgrades.

2020 Real World eCommerce Session Format

Join us at the Eastside Branch Library for the November WordPress Meetup meeting - upstairs in the small conference room - Monday 24 February 7-9 PM

With WordPress you can create and maintain your own websites - WordPress Meetups are a place to learn how to use WordPress - all levels of experience are welcome.

Monday 24 February - adding images, pdfs, videos, audios, to your Gutenberg WordPress site. Looking at various uploads - and getting them to display they way you want on your WordPress Posts and Pages

We have started a new way to communicate with each other - we now have our own Slack group. The link below will take you to Slack - if you already use Slack just login and add the group. If you do not have Slack it is free - sign up for a free account and add the WordPress Group - the link makes this easy. Slack also has apps for Windows10 - iPad and Andriod - the Slack link has been updated - if you have had a problem in the past joining the Slack group try it with this link

A reminder - we meet the 2nd Thursday of every month at 3rd Street Stuff for what we call "Happiness Bar" - WordPress Happiness is solving or finding a solution to something that has confused or alluded us. This is the pace to find answers to problems with your WordPress Site

WordCamp US 2020 will again return to St. Louis - and will be October 27-29 --- they are changing from the traditional weekend to Tuesday thru Thursday. The site will be up soon - http://2020.us.worcamp.org

Remember Lynda has WordPress and other useful classes and is free for anyone with a Lexington Library card. If you look at the Lynda classes there are some classes available now for WordPress with Gutenberg - and of course remember to search Lynda for classes in other things
Obviously there is a lot of help on You Tube - quality does vary - and always remember the Google is your friend when it comes to tech solutions.

The Dayton WordCamp has been cancelled - there is a WordCamp coming up in Kent Ohio (Near Akron) I have not attended this one so I don't know much about it - only that attendees from both the Dayton and the Columbus WordCamps often attend the one at Kent
https://2020.kent.wordcamp.org/
WordCamp Asheville NC does not have a date scheduled yet - this one is always excellent and Asheville is not far from Central Kentucky

The next Meetup will be Monday March 30 and will again be at the Eastside Branch

This group has a website at https://kywpgeeks.com -- I had hoped to have gotten some needed updates done but due do malware on a server that I had several sites a lot of time had to be devoted to fixing this mess. If you happen to be using Infinite WP a way to remotely manage multiple sites you probably have this same malware - it is extremely invasive and will contaminate EVERY web site you have on a server is any of the website use IWP Client to access the sites using Infinite WP.

Do you have a topic or presentation that you would like to present at one of our meetups? Do you know of anyone that would like to come and do a presentation? What are some things that you would like to learn more about? Please join out Slack group and present your ideas and thoughts

One of the things that other WordPress meetups do is after their normal meetup they go out to a late night restaurant or bar - does anyone have any ideas of anyplace fairly near the Eastside Branch (Hamburg Area) where we might go after 9PM that is open to at least 11PM serving food or snacks? I know absolutely nothing about bars or breweries and very little about restaurants so your suggestions would be a help. Again reply through the Slack group

==Meetup Info==
WordPress Pasadena is back in beautiful Old-Town Pasadena at one of the first (and finest) Co-Workin' spaces in town, CrossCampus (http://www.crosscamp.us/).

Bring your curiosity, your questions, your swell attitude and lots of potatoes. J/k, just bring your smiling faces. Please read the info below as it pertains to our meetup format and FAQs.

About the Pasadena WordPress Meetup

We've been around for 7+ years! Yeah. Believe the hype! Your hosts are Alex Vasquez, a website developer who runs DigiSavvy (https://digisavvy.com/), a boutique digital creative agency in LA.

Who can attend?

We welcome attendees from all backgrounds and experiences to come and participate. If you want to learn about WordPress and have questions; please attend. If you know all there is to know about WordPress you are welcome to attend because you are cooler than cool!

Format

For the first segment, we usually have a brief presentation (15+/- minutes) then we do a roundtable format of Q and A about WordPress, so please bring your questions. This is also a great opportunity to share your knowledge with others. Everyone that attends is expected to ask a question or answer a question. You're taking time to show up, so please, please, please get involved!!! I mean that! Your participation keeps this community going and growing.

The second part we network and it's also a time to assist one another with in-depth help regarding questions they may have.

FAQs

• Is this a place to talk about my services and products I sell?
No. There are networking groups specifically for that. We're not one of them.

• Is there a charge to attend?
NO! The only thing we ask is that you participate and be welcoming toward one another. It's a safe space to learn from one another.

• Can I talk about my business and things I sell?
Sure, but DON'T sell to the Meetup Group. There are other communities for that sort of stuff and it's not welcome here.

• Will there be food and/or drink?
No. Make sure you eat and hydrate yourself. Do you know how hard it is to learn on an empty stomach?

• Is this group right for me?
Personally, I think this group is for everyone. Some people feel overwhelmed by the sometimes (and sometimes often) technical/advanced nature of the questions posed. That's okay. There's a lot of that. But everyone of any skill level is encouraged to ask a question, no matter how "beginner" the question may seem.Don't be discouraged if you don't know the material discussed. Feel free to ask questions. The group is meant to empower and encourage.

• What if I know the answers to all the questions? Can I answer all of them?
There are a lot of smart people in this group who show up ready to help and answer beginner and advanced topics alike. Please encourage and allow everyone to lend their voice to the conversation, too.

PLEASE NOTICE NEW DATES!
We now meet officially on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 6 PM at Reno Collective. Our meetup will be held in Studio A - the large conference room towards the rear of the building.

The Reno WordPress Meetup usually starts with introductions, some news in the WordPress world and questions/comments about the previous month's topic.

Following the introductory session one of the meetup organizers or a guest speaker will present information on a topic for the month - which is usually determined by the questions and requests of the previous month's meetup attendees.

When you enter the Meetup you will be able to submit topics for the AMA (Ask Me Anything) session held after the short program presentation.

We will do our best to update this meetup information page to reflect the upcoming meetup topic.

WordPress is a very powerful Content Management System (CMS) that can be addressed at many levels. Some people just want to use it to accomplish their business or personal goals, some want to add/modify themes or add plugins to make their website more useful to them and others want to develop their own themes and plugins to customize WordPress to do exactly what they want or to be able to market their WordPress services to others.

The Reno WordPress Meetup is here to help you accomplish your goals but we can't give you the information you need if we don't know what you want. Tell us what you would like to learn and we will do our best to help you.

Hello WordPress Geeks!

Are you working on a project, your own or a client's, and you're having some challenges? Do you have an idea for your WordPress site and you don't even know where to begin to implement it? Well, this Meetup is for you! Bring your project and we'll look at your sticky parts or help you strategize how to move forward with your ideas.

Gain Clarity

Sometimes knowing where to begin is just too overwhelming. When you gain more clarity and focus on what you want to achieve, it's easier to look for options. Bring your big WordPress Dreams and let's see if we can help you find the first step to implementing them.

Squash the Bugs

Are you stuck? Something isn't working the way everyone else says it should. You've spent days and lost hair trying to figure it out. Maybe a few more pairs of eyes and extra brain power can help you. Bring you're buggy situations and let's see if we can fumigate your issue!

The Meetup is 2 hours long. Depending on number of participants and issues not everyone may get help for their specific issue. So, I will go in the order of RSVP's. Isn't that incentive for you to grab your spot now?

NOTE: Fishbon is a non-profit and the use of the space is only $15 per hour (with any surplus going to rent/upkeep of the space. There will be a request for a VOLUNTARY donation. You are under NO OBLIGATION to donate. Thank you!

TOPIC: The Seven Deadly Sins of Marketing.

Description:
Today, Marketing has access to over 7,000 digital tools and invests more in IT than Chief Information Officers. This investment has come with significant performance expectations and often falls short in many companies. Marketing has spent so much money on new tech tools to get reams of data analytics, often devoting more time mired in data than on getting new customers and keeping them satisfied. Avoid the pitfalls of digital marketing (and analog too!) and learn about a sticky-note simple way to manage all customer interactions and metrics in one place.

Lessons Learned:
Review the current state of marketing and how it has fallen short with people and technology
Recognize and avoid the flaws of digital marketing
Gain an understanding of a simple sales funnel method centered around the customer journey

Jessica Kelley, CEO of HPZ Marketing is a seasoned leader with more than two decades of marketing and finance experience in B2B and B2C channels. She has worked extensively within healthcare, consumer, commercial, and software industries in diverse environments ranging in size from a $100 billion corporation to a startup firm.

We are very thankful to Campaignium for allowing us to use their conference room. The doors will be locked for safety, but someone will be there to let you in at the main entrance.

If you have any questions feel free to post them here in the discussion.

Are you a blogger and/or DIY (do-it-yourselfers) looking to connect with others who are interested in building WordPress websites and blogs? Then this group may be for you!

We meet once a month to discuss what we're working on, help each other on any problems we're having, and share tips on steps that can make life easier.

This group is primarily bloggers with some experience with WordPress and blogging. If you are BRAND NEW to WordPress, we'd love to see you. We also recommend attending the WordPress Fundamentals MeetUp (meets on the third Saturday of most months), which will introduce you to this great platform and get you started on your path to blogging/website management.

The DIY User Group meets on the last Saturday of each month. We hope you can join us and will spread the word. There's plenty of free parking at the Wallingford Senior Center.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

It says that the Senior is Closed, will you still have the meetup?
Yep! I have a key and will be there setting up when you arrive. Please note that there is only one host for this meetup, so if I'm sick, I will send an email through MeetUp.com if I have to cancel.

Do I have to bring a computer?
Only if you want to show examples to the group to help facilitate the discussion or better explain an issue you're having.

The map shows downtown Seattle, where is the location?
Please join us at the Wallingford Senior Center, 4649 Sunnyside Ave N, #140 (lowest level), Seattle, WA. To make sure you end up at the right location, put "Wallingford Senior Center" in your search browser and Google Maps will direct you to the right place. Folks have been hit or miss when trying to navigate with the 4649 address.

I'm brand new to WordPress, is this the right MeetUp for me?
If you are new to WordPress, check out the WordPress Fundamentals Meetup. This is a great place to get an introduction to WordPress. Of course, we'd love to have you too.

Is this MeetUp only for Bloggers?
Nope! If you are a professional creating sites for clients, we'd love to have you join us to share your expertise and advice. Also, please be sure to join our Freelancer Meetup on the first Thursday of each month 10-12 AM.

This group is for everyone who wants to learn how to create or remediate their WordPress websites to be Accessible as measured by the Web Accessibility Content Guidelines (WCAG 2.1)

What is Web Accessibility?

Web accessibility means that websites, tools, and technologies are designed and developed so that people with disabilities can use them. More specifically, people can:

-- perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with the Web
-- contribute to the Web

Web accessibility encompasses all disabilities that affect access to the Web, including:

-- auditory
-- cognitive
-- neurological
-- physical
-- speech
-- visual

Web accessibility also benefits people without disabilities.
(source: https://www.w3.org/WAI/fundamentals/accessibility-intro/)

WordPress core is Accessible. What you add to it (themes, plugins, content) makes a difference in its Accessibility.

What’s this Group About?

We're definitely talking about WordPress, and we'll be discussing Accessibility guidelines and actions that make your WordPress website Accessible.

You should join us and be prepared to participate as we look at the most common errors, why they are a problem and how to remediate them. Bring your laptop and work hands-on your own sites so you can learn the steps you can apply to all the sites you build with WordPress.

Who should attend?

Our meetup is inclusive. This group is for people who love WordPress and Accessibility and want to share their knowledge, experience, and to meet other WordPress users in the area. Both experienced and beginner WordPress designers are encouraged to attend and participate.

We do have a few rules.

In line with the mission of WordPress, our meetup was established in keeping with the 5 Good Faith Rules on Make WordPress (https://make.wordpress.org/community/handbook/meetup-organizer/meetup-program-basics/#the-five-good-faith-rules). We’re a friendly bunch, creating a friendly, nurturing and encouraging environment to talk WordPress.

NO Sales pitches of your products or services to the group. NO pitches of any product that you receive a kickback or commission.

No legal discussion or advice, unless you are a civil rights or disability rights attorney.

What we want to discuss

Questions related to any Web Accessibility problem you are facing.

Everyone has questions about WordPress at some time or other. Maybe your site is doing a strange thing with a margin and need a little CSS help. Maybe you're having trouble setting up a child theme. Getting security warnings because you have insecure content? Have a "what if I wanted to do X on my site?" question, and you'd like some suggestions about where to start?

Developers from our group will be available for free limited assistance and suggestions. (If your issue is super-complex, we may not be able to fix it on the spot, but we can at least point you in some good directions.)

While it's fine to come to watch while other people's issues & questions get dealt with, it would be great if everyone came with either a question/issue, or a recent "how I did it" to share.

If we don't have a large turnout, or not a lot of people need help, we'll have an example video from a WordCamp that we can all watch. If you've never been to WordCamp it would be a mini taste of what WordCamp sessions are like.

As usual, parking permits are not enforced after 5pm on OSU-Cascades campus parking. After the formal meetup time, we will migrate over to Cascade Lakes Brewing for a more informal social time -- everyone is welcome to join!

Do you make your living using WordPress to create websites for other people’s businesses? This new Meetup is for you! We’ll discuss the successes and challenges of running a small business, share stories, ask questions, share tools & resources, brainstorm ideas and generally create a community for those of us who typically work in isolation.

We meet on the first Thursday of each month from 10-noon at the Wallingford Good Shepherd Center, Room 221. It’s not far from the freeway and has free parking.

PS – Please note that this Meetup is specifically for those with a freelance business that relies on WordPress and not intended for those who have their business website made in WordPress. There are many other Meetups for WordPress users.

This is a morning meeting on the first Friday of each month for collaboration and help with WordPress. We can ask questions of each other, discuss projects, or follow up from a prior meeting. This is meant to be a helpful and low key way to share knowledge and experiences.

Here’s what you’ll need for an optimal experience:
1. Charge up and bring your laptop, logins, and notebook
2. Know that there are some WordPress issues that need more time to resolve. So, we may run out of time before your problem is fixed.
3. Money for a drink or food from Axum Coffee in return for letting us use their space to collaborate.

There is plenty of free public parking in the parking garage at 160 S Boyd St, and it's just a one minute walk from parking to Axum Coffee. If there are a lot of attendees and the weather is good, we sometimes move our group to the patio seating behind Axum. Otherwise, just look for us inside. We'll be the ones talking loudly and wildly gesticulating as we discuss WordPress plugins, blogging, site management, online business, you name it.

If there is lots of interest, we will be limiting the attendee and invited guest counts for RSVP so as to not overwhelm Axum’s space with too many people from just our group. Do you build plugins or want to learn more about the process? Do you want to learn about WordPress development in general? If so, we've got some exciting news for you!

In addition to our standard monthly WordPress meetup, we are adding a second meetup specifically for WordPress developers.

The Advanced WordPress Developers meetup will take place on the 2nd Monday of every month, from 6:30pm until 8:30pm at Work In Progress in Downtown Las Vegas.

We are currently brainstorming what "advanced" topics we are going to talk about. We have four advanced categories in mind:

1) Advanced WP Round-Ups -- A listicle about things folks shared in the AWP sites, slack and groups/forums.
2) What's Advanced about WP? -- Deep dive into Core functions that allow you to do more advanced things.
3) Advancing WP -- Things happening in the broader WP Community that push the project forward in more developer-friendly ways and how others can contribute to it.
4) How are we Advancing WP -- Case Studies on doing something advanced and awesome with WP.

Bring your ideas, knowledge, experience and let's start helping each other be better developers by evolving our WP developer's community.

Please note that space is limited. 28 is the full capacity so please keep your RSVP updated. Thanks and see you all at Work In Progress!

Our Help Desk Meetups are going smashingly well. We can accommodate up about 40-50 people and we're full almost every time.

Going forward we will be we will be having Meetups especially designed for those who need help with their web sites. If you are running a WordPress site and are having issues and would like some help, then this Meetup is specifically for you. If you are a WordPress expert, by all means come and help us help out as many people as possible. Please message the admins if you want to be identified as a WordPress expert and are willing to help.

We will have 4-6 WordPress experts on hand to assist you with solving as many of your WordPress problems as possible, on-site and in real-time.

There is free wifi at the space, so all you need to bring is yourself, your laptop and your problems.

Note: There is no formal presentation planned. This Meetup is designed for people who need help and who want to connect to a WordPress expert who can solve their issues or steer them in the right direction to solve the problems they're experiencing with WordPress.

Note: Please only RSVP if you plan to attend. You don't necessarily need to have an issue that needs resolving to be able to attend. We understand that people will pick up tips and tricks by watching how issues are solved even if they don't directly apply to their own WordPress site.

As always, we‘ll order a few pizzas, bring some beers, kick on the fans (A/C being planned) and have a good time. Donations towards pizza, beer and acquiring an A/C unit are encouraged and highly appreciated.

It's OK if you want to attend but only want to observe. We recognize this is how people learn. Given our time limit of two hours, we may not be able to solve all of everyone's issues. We will try, though. If you are seeking help, please come prepared! Please have your web site loaded in a browser (there is free wifi at the space), have your WordPress admin ready, along with a short list of issues you are trying to solve.

This is a Repeating Meetup. It happens every 2nd Monday of every month unless a holiday intervenes in which it will typically pushed to 1st Monday of the month.

This session describes how to build a simple website using Elegant Themes' Divi Theme to create a responsive website in minutes using prefined layouts from the Elegant library. There are approximately 150 layouts to choose from that each contains several pages.

The class will show step by step (with little or no coding) on how to customize the layout and change the design. This session is gear to an audience that wants quick results without laboring with HTML, CCS or PHP. The required skill is from beginner to Intermediate.

This session will use Divi 4.0 to make easy changes to the website with the visual builder. I will demonstrate how several design changes will be implemented and rendered properly on the Laptop, Tablet or Smartphone views of the website.

Our approach will be an ad hoc session with class participation to select the design changes and to demonstrate their implementation while having an interactive class discussion.
