This is an event for meetups located in the Great Lakes Area, including Ontario and New York meetups. To name a few: Hamilton (hosting), Buffalo, Rochester, Niagara, Toronto, Mississauga, London, Kingston, Durham, and any other meetups that may wish to include their members. Please let us know so we can properly recognize you.

This will be Hamilton's Meetup for the month of March and held a week earlier than usual.

Does the thought of speaking at one of our meetups or WordCamps intrigue you? This is a workshop for people from marginalized and underrepresented groups who are thinking about speaking at a meetup or WordCamp. The focus of this hands-on session is to look at what has stopped you from speaking in the past and explore how to move past your fears, generate WordPress-related topics to give a talk on, boost your speaking confidence, and allow you to practice speaking in a safe space. At the end of the workshop, you will have a few ideas for talks that the community wants to hear!

***You do NOT have to have any experience in public speaking. This workshop is for all levels of experience.***

This workshop is for you if:
- You identify as being from a marginalized or underrepresented group in terms of gender, race, class, sexuality, ability, age, etc.
- You’ve thought about speaking at meetups or WordCamps but haven’t been able to think of a topic
- You think you don’t know anything worth speaking about

All Meetup and WordCamp organizers in our region are also invited to both participate in the exercises and to support the attendees.

We will cover:
- Why speak at WordPress events?
- Dispelling some myths about speakers/speaking
- Coming up with topics and choosing one

Be prepared to participate interactively! We are going to be working on exercises together in small breakout rooms. You can also always say “Pass” to opt-out of participating.

This workshop will be facilitated by a couple of our friends from the #WPDiversity group: AmyJune Hineline (she/her) and Tara King (she/they).

Please try to arrive a few minutes early so that we can start on time.

The meeting will be held online at this Zoom link:

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82903751368?pwd=bVJaUXVIMWtMQTJnQUJWNElhZ2tDQT09

The WordPress Toronto Meetup groups is sponsored by Weglot and the Canadian Management Consoritum.

Weglot is the fastest and most flexible ways to translate your website. Here’s a short demo - https://youtu.be/P3XZwyezkSI

To gain priority for your "help" request, please explain your issue prior to the meeting in the comments section below on meetup.com. We will address these issues first.

Participating before the meetup by submitting your question with your URL in the Comment section will allow attendees and hosts to offer immediate advice before the meeting and get your question PRIORITIZED at the meetup. Please be clear, concise and include your website and all relevant links. Let us know what steps you've taken to try to fix your problem and where you're stuck. If there are any fixes or issues that the group can't get to in time, someone in the meetup may tackle them with you 1 on 1, online or in the next meeting.

***Important Note*** The hosts/attendees are not responsible for any breaks that may occur during the process of attempting to fix your site at the meeting (or afterwards). The hosts HIGHLY recommend you have a backup of your site, just in case something unexpected happens. You can also let us know that you'd like ideas on fixes rather than actually attempting a fix during the meeting.

A video of previous meetups, recaps with links and chat summaries are available online.

Christina Gwira is back for one more session to help us get started with WooCommerce, one of the most popular eCommerce plugins for WordPress.

But while popular, using and managing an online store on the plugin is no small feat. In this session, attendees will go through some of the ways to maximize the plugin. We will touch upon setting up shipping as well as how to use the plugin to deliver digital downloads. We will also go through how to make better product pages for customers as well as have a Q&A session to round off the meetup.

"Not Beginner" series:
------------------
This is a meetup in our "Not Beginner" series. This series includes anything that is, well, not a beginner/introductory level topic. Thus, talks in this series will range from not very advanced at all - just barely above beginner - to deep dive dev talks.

Anyone at any experience level is welcome to attend, but for "not beginner" talks there will be an assumption in the presentations and discussion that attendees have some knowledge of WordPress, and/or the presented topic.
